In praise, of Charlie Waite at Winlaton Camera Club
A good night was had be all who came along to enjoy a most entertaining evening at Winlaton CC. Here are a selection of comments which have been received from a very appreciative audience.
"The Amble Contingent" greatly enjoyed the evening, and appreciated the excellent buffet provided. As we know, organising such events is hard work! Thanks again, Carol, APG Secretary.
It really was a great night and Charlie's words really struck a chord with me Rob Appleby - Gateshead CC (vice-president)
We had a soopa night, well done to everyone (including that fella called "Charlie") A big thank you for organising it. Pauline & Tom Wilson - Cramlington CC
There were 9 members & partners from Carlisle CC to see Charlie last night and we all thought that he was an absolute gent as well as an inspiration. It is unusual to see an acknowledged expert offer up criticism of his own work. I have one of his books -the B&W one "In my minds eye" - but never thought to take it with me to get it signed. But I did buy a DVD, which I have yet to watch, to remind me of the night. Alan Thompson - Carlisle CC
We had a great evening -- the food was an unexpected bonus and thanks to the catering staff -- Charlie's lecture was quite excellent. We have waited a long while to hear him in the flesh, and his enthusiasm and charm came up to expectations. We came home inspired. John and Rosamund from Loweswater (Keswick PS and West Cumbria PS)
Winlaton CC members, thank you all so much for inviting me to attend the “Evening with Charlie Waite”. I have 3 of Charlie`s books and I enjoyed his images very much – in particular his unique digital finale, very clever. David Stout, Ryton CC, EFIAP, DPAGB.
Just back from a really good night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Charlie has some great tips and I think the old addage of keep it simple tends to work (and show) in his images. A really nice guy with some great images (as you'd expect!). Michael James Combe.
Thanks for organising – a really interesting evening. Agreed with a lot of what CW had to say, although would have loved to have debated some of his more extreme opinions with him. One day maybe, when I’m rich and famous......! Jonathan Brown.
Can I say how much we enjoyed our evening with Charlie Waite. Your club were excellent hosts and the bonus of a bite to eat was unexpected but welcome. It was interesting to hear Charlie’s photographic philosophy and to see and hear his personal criticism of his photos – there is hope for me yet! Graham Curry
Thanks - A great night James Thow.
Most intriguing was him saying that both he and Ansel Adams only produced 12 shots a year that they were/are truly happy with. Quality not quantity. Great job organising it and apart from the absence of prawn voluvon the food was good too. Mark Bradshaw.
I really enjoyed last night so thanks, I found his words as inspiring as his photography I kind of wish I had brought my note pad. Reed Ingram Weir.
12 a year, his calendars must be bloody good! And expensive! Was a good chat, he talked for a good length of time and some of his points such as looking around the edges of the viewfinder for objects that provide no substance to a photo were great little insights. Andrew Dodd.
Great evening, I thoroughly enjoyed the talk and images, was dying to jump in at the end with some discussion about his grail for the personal epiphany in the context of some fairly Romantic philosophy yet modern eye, the Keatsian truth is beauty, beauty is truth" He's very entertaining and easy to listen to. I would have asked a bit too about what he took best from Cartier Bresson,.. Norma McKellar.
Many thanks for organising the night with Charlie! It was a great opportunity to see him, I'd first seen him on the TV recently and found him so inspirational! So it was even better to see him in the flesh and also the DVD I bought was brilliant. I got the "Travelling Light" DVD which is great because you can see and hear him taking photos, the considerations and decisions he makes are such a huge learning for me!! So bravo! Allan England.
